Milton, named after a Revolutionary War hero and former Milton County that included modern-day Milton between 1857 and 1931 is part of Fulton county with its own separate commission.
A bill was introduced for the City of Milton in 2005 with the intent to move it forward in 2006. This gave residents one full year before they had to decide on whether or not it would become law. In 2006, 85% of voters approved a referendum and cityhood became official!

Milton, Georgia, incorporated in 2006, has since worked to create its own model of governance. This city utilizes public-private partnerships for cost savings while providing quality services. Milton is bordered by Cherokee County in the North West; Forsyth county East; Roswell City limits South (A little west of Arnold Mill Road); Alpharetta City Limits (roughly Mayfield Rd until Cogburn road)

- Planters Peanut Festival – Held in October each year, this is a great event for all the peanut lovers out there. Visitors can participate in games and activities along with tasting some of the many different foods made using peanuts.
- Annual Party In The Park – This is another popular event that draws crowds from all over Georgia. It’s held every year on the third Saturday in May at Bethlehem United Methodist Church
- Pumpkin Festival – Milton holds a pumpkin festival every year on the first weekend after Halloween. There are lots of booths filled with food as well as hayrides to enjoy while listening to local musicians perform live music.
